DEPARTMENT OF POLITICAL SCIENCE

Establishment:

The Department of Political Science started its academic journey since the inception of the college with the first academic session started from 1970-71. The department is one of the largest departments of the college in terms of number of applicants every year.

Programmes Offered

The Department presently offers the following programmes under the affiliation of Kazi Nazrul University:

• B.A. Honours in Political Science(4 Year)
• B.A. in Political Science(3 Year)

Add on Courses

The Department has also started offering Add on Courses for students of all Departments since the academic session 2023-2024.

• Add on Course on “The Consumer Protection Act: An Overview-Imperatives to Establish Your Rights”(07/03/2024 to 05/05/2024)
• Add on Course on “KAUTILYA’S ARTHASHASTRA-IMPERATIVES AND VALUES: A VALUE ADDED ANCIENT TEXT OF TIMELESS PRAXIS” (09/07/2024 to 15/09/2024) jointly organized by Department of History, Philosophy and Political Science

Teaching, Learning and Evaluation

The department adopts several student-friendly teaching strategies and innovative evaluation processes. These include classroom lectures, Group Discussions, sharing e- learning materials on various platforms and interactive video-based lessons delivered through Departmental You Tube Channel. Orientation programmes are conducted at the commencement of each session, flexible learning process to suit the needs of each student, Role play based learning, assistance beyond classroom through dedicated class based online study groups. The Assessment strategies include class presentation, written classroom as well as home-based assignment to enable continuous learning, quizzes, poster competition, students’ seminar and observational assessment. The department also regularly organizes parent teacher meetings and special classes to cater to the needs of the slow and advanced learners.
