DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE

Establishment:
The Department of Commerce is one of the pioneering departments of the district to offer undergraduate programmes in Commerce Stream. The department came into existence in the year 1982.

Programmes Offered
The Department presently offers the following programmes under the affiliation of Kazi Nazrul University:
• B.Com. Honours in Accounting(4 Year)
• B.Com. in Accounting (3 Year)

Add on Courses
The Department has also started offering Add on Courses for students of all Departments since the academic session 2023-2024.

• ADD ON COURSE ON “FOUNDATION OF SHARE MARKET” (14/03/2024 to 07/05/2024)
• ADD ON COURSE ON “OFFICE MANAGEMENT AND SECRETARIAL PRACTICE” (14/03/2024 to 15/05/2024)
• ADD ON COURSE ON “MUTUAL FUND IN INDIA” (09/07/2024 to 30/09/2024)

Teaching, Learning and Evaluation
The Department takes pride in its commendable performance vis-à-vis major developmental indicators such as student intake, number of teachers, student’s success rate etc. The teaching methods adopted by the faculty for enhancing the skills of the students are Chalk and Board, Power Point Presentation, Audio-Visual aids (films and videos on subject related topics), Case Study Method, Group Discussion Method, Co-operative Learning. The Department of Commerce arranges for personal counselling of students through effective mentor-mentee mechanism. Presently, the department consisting of faculty strength of 8 full time faculty members and 4 state aided college teachers presents a perfect blend of experienced and young dynamic faculty members. Regular doubt clearing classes, class tests, viva-voce and written assignments are taken to assess the learning levels of students. Students of the Department have been the university rank holders for the year 2019, 2020 and 2022. Graduated students have been placed for higher studies in reputed institutes and also placed through campus interviews.
