DEPARTMENT OF ZOOLOGY
Establishment:
The Department of Zoology is functioning since 1984. The Department is situated in a separate building, namely, PG Building (Pran-O-Paribesh Bhawan). The Department is presently poised nicely with a perfect blend of experienced and young faculty members. Presently the Department is functioning with five full time and two state aided college teachers.

The Department has also started offering Add on Courses for students of all Departments since the academic session 2023-2024.
Teaching and Research
Department of Zoology, Durgapur Government College, established as a premier centre of undergraduate teaching in animal sciences, is credited for producing brilliant graduates placed in reputed institutes for higher studies. The department a conducive learning mechanism through field visits, projects, hands on training, seminars etc & promotes interdisciplinary dimension through amalgamation of all science departments. The college campus spread over 25 acres is a rich treasure trove of diverse flora & fauna with ample opportunities of life science research. Students have completed projects on the natural resources of the college campus. The student statistics shows majority of girl students for last five years. A perfect blend of experienced & dynamic faculty with research competence are among the strengths of the department. The teaching methods include Chalk and Talk, Demonstration of Experiments in Classrooms, visits to research laboratories, hands on training experiments in laboratories and use of licensed software for teaching such as Arc-GIS.
DBT STAR COLLEGE SCHEME
The Department is one of the participating departments under the DBT STAR COLLEGE SCHEME of the institution and has been organizing new experiments, workshops, hands on training programmes, seminars, invited lectures and interactive sessions, laboratory staff training programmes and several other initiatives since September 2022 focussed on the skill enhancement of students, faculty members and staff. Several equipment have been procured to strengthen the undergraduate teaching process under the scheme.
