Durgapur Government College Central Library Welcomes You!

This College Library plays a significant role in the search of knowledge. It serves as the workshop for the entire college- students; faculties and other employees. It aims to support the teaching learning activity in the college and also provide the students updated knowledge and to ensure the optimum utilization of the available resources. The facility of ‘Partial Open Access System’ adopted in the library, Library Management Software KOHA ( Ver 16.11.09) has been installed and documents computerized partially. The library was started with about 575 books in 1971, at present it has very rich collections of printed books on various branches of knowledge and some CD/DVDs. The Library Building is located adjacent to the Administrative Building which is the centre of the college campus. It occupies about 517 sq. metre and its collection being books is about 80,000 books. Its collections are being increased day by day as funds come from the State Government Grant and the UGC Grant. The library is provided with proper ventilation, lighting & fans/AC and CCTV Surveillance. Moreover, every department has its own departmental library for easy and quick access to course-wise specialized documents.

Library Rules

1. All students must make use of the library facility to enrich their academic excellence.

2. Only members are allowed to enter the college library on the strength of a valid Identity Card, which must be produced as and when it is demanded by the library personnel or faculty member.

3. Complete silence must be maintained in & near the library.

4. Students should not bring bag (except purse) and eatables inside the library.

5. Using the Cell Phone in the Library is strictly prohibited (except Scanning a drawing from the text)

6. In case of any difficulty, readers can approach the Librarian.

7. Co-operation of the students is earnestly sought in observing the rules.

8. Only one book can be borrowed against a card.

9. The book must be returned by the borrower on the 15th day from the date of issue. If the 15th day is a Sunday or a Holiday it is to be returned on the next working day positively.

10. A book may be re-issued for second time immediately after its return if the librarian is satisfied that it is not demanded by others.

11. Any book lost/damaged or mutilated must have to be replaced by the borrower responsible for it. If the book is one of a set or series and the volume cannot be obtained singly, the whole set or series must be replaced at borrower’s cost.

12. Books confined to library will not be issued to students.

13. Library clearance certificate will be issued only after the submission of library card/s to the librarian.

14. No book will be issued to sent up students.

15. If the library card is lost or destroyed and if applied for a duplicate card then it may be issued on payment of Re.1/-

16. Infringement of the library rules will result in the withdrawal of the library facility from the student/s

17. All cases of the violation of rules will be reported to the Principal for suitable action

18. A borrower may be exempted from the purview of any of the above rules only by a written permission of the principal.

19. Rules may be changed as and when necessary by the authority
