DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICS
Establishment:
The Department of Physics starts its journey in 1973 to fulfil the growing demands of the students of surrounding locality to learn physics. For almost a five decade, the Department has distinguished itself as the best place to study Physics in Asansol-Durgapur industrial belt. Over the years, the Department has produced successful outstanding graduates who held the positions of leadership in various professions. The Department hopes that students will develop a keen interest in the subject and contribute to the educational life of the nation. Our mission is to facilitate access to the mainstreams of knowledge for the students to meet the zenith in their respective professional fields and to turn out graduates. Students after passing out generally pursue higher education in different IITs, institutes, Central Universities and State Universities.

Add on Courses
The Department has also started offering Add on Courses for students of all Departments since the academic session 2024-2025.
Teaching and Research
The Department uses several student friendly initiatives for effective teaching and learning process. Presentation on theoretical courses is done using slides prepared by softwares like Microsoft Power-Point or LibreOffice. Chalk and Board method in theory classes, live-demonstration during practical classes are followed for different topics. Hard copy of study materials are shared along with soft copies and e-content through Knimbus Digital Library, Google Classroom and Moodle. Doubt clearing and Remedial / Problem solving sessions are also organized by the department beyond the scheduled offline classes. The Department also consists of dedicated faculty members actively involved in research. One of the faculty members is the recognized Ph.D. Guide by The University of Burdwan.
DBT STAR COLLEGE SCHEME
The Department is one of the participating departments under the DBT STAR COLLEGE SCHEME of the institution and has been organizing new experiments, workshops, hands on training programmes, seminars, invited lectures and interactive sessions, and several other initiatives since September 2022 focussed on the skill enhancement and subject understanding of students. The Department also organizes outreach activities for local schools and training programmes for laboratory staff under the scheme.
