Sri Amrito Haldar

Durgapur Govt. College, in particular, Dept. of Geology has immense contribution for shaping my career. This Department was one of the best places in India to learn Geology during those days. It helped me get into ISM, Dhanbad from where I could complete my M. SC (Tech) and M.Tech in Applied Geology successively. Afterwards, I got selected at The Indian Institute of Remote Sensing, Dehradun (IIRS , ISRO) as a scientist. Geological knowledge I gained from Durgapur Government College still helps me in solving various issues pertaining to Earth Sciences.

One of the most memorable aspects of my time at Durgapur Government College was the unwavering support and guidance of the faculty members from the department of chemistry. Their passion for teaching and commitment to excellence inspired me to push beyond my limits in every stage. My three years at the Department of English, Durgapur Government College (2001-04) were the three most carefree years as a student. I did what I liked doing- read novels, watched movies, wrote creative pieces- without having the fear of being reprimanded for wasting my study time. My department and the teachers were always encouraging all sorts of eccentricities that we did in the name of creativity. A happy lot that we were, three years were spent with the blink of an eye with newly made friends who now mean more than family to me. The college, along with the department, occupies a special place in my heart and will do so as long as I breathe.

I am fortunate that I studied English Honours, here, under the mentorship of Prof. Debabrata Chatterjee, Prof. Dipankar Sen, Prof. Debika Bose and Prof. Rajorshi Chakraborty. Their illuminating lectures and affectionate attitude inspired me to see ‘literature’ as a discipline without borders.

Hi, I am Rounaq Ghosh, a former student of Department of Conservation Biology fromDurgapur Government College. I have passed Masters in Conservation Biology in 2016 (2014-2016). It was a great experience studying in the department. The faculties were very supportive. All the classmates, seniors and juniors were very friendly too. I have learned a lot from the faculties. We have visited Buxa Tiger Reserve, Alipurduar twice during my M.Sc. days as our educational tour, which gives me my first ever exposure to the field study and we have learned different field techniques. In fact, I have gained my interest in ornithology during my M.Sc. days. I am very much thankful to the department and college. Both played a major part in my life memory.

Rounaq Ghosh

It was a rainy July morning of 2011, when I had stepped into the premises of Durgapur Government College with an utter confused state of mind and little bit scared after thinking, what the college life would be. But who knew then, that the next few years would be the best ones of my life, and that one day, sitting in a forest in some other corner of the country, I would be cherishing these days. Maybe it will be a tall claim, but I am one of the few lucky fellows, who had completed graduation (Botany) and post-graduation (Conservation Biology), both from this prestigious institution. Whatever position I am holding today, a large chunk of credit is owed to Durgapur Government College. In a deep utopian dream, I still find myself sitting in my lab at DGC and living the life that I really miss today.
