College History

The establishment of Durgapur Government College, a public-funded institution, was inevitable with the emergence of the Steel City Durgapur. The college may be viewed as a by-product of Durgapur City when the Steel City, the ‘Ruhr’ of Bengal, was born. Durgapur Government College towered in the entire region of Bardhaman (Presently Paschim Bardhaman and Purba Bardhaman), Bankura, Purulia and Birbhum in a vast stretch of the southern part of West Bengal as the only government college.
