Vision

The laying of the foundation stone of Durgapur Government College on January 22, 1969 was the follow-up of an effort to set up a co-educational government-funded institution of higher education at the gradually emerging industrial town of Durgapur. The institution began with a dream of cultivating students with the best education possible, instilling values to go forth into the world as good human beings, and to be equipped to meet the challenges of the world outside the campus walls. Faculty members are appointed centrally by the Department of Higher Education, Government of West Bengal upon recommendation of the Public Service Commission and consequently, the institution consists of highly qualified, research-oriented and dedicated faculty members to provide quality education. Presently, Durgapur houses a number of government-aided and private colleges. Durgapur Government College continues to function in Durgapur as the only public-funded institution offering degrees at nominal tuition fees, with a vision to include and empower students for higher education and jobs from various categories of society irrespective of their religion, caste, creed, social and economic background and from remote rural areas who cannot afford the inflated fee structure of private colleges.
