NSS wing of the institution is very active since its opening in 1972 and has a very glorious past. NSS has two units with volunteer base of around hundred students in each unit belonging to science, Arts and commerce streams respectively. Unit 1 was opened in 1972 and Unit 2 was opened in the year 2008 Financial assistance is disbursed from the affiliating University to these two units. For every financial year, each NSS unit receives Rs. 22,500/- for general activities. Additionally, each unit also receives Rs.22,500/- to conduct special camps every financial year. The utilization certificate is sent to the university for the grants received by these units
Adopted villages: Uttarpally is the adopted village under unit-1. Unit -2 has adopted Dangapara, a new village since the academic year 2015-2016. Some NSS volunteers of our college are recruited from these adopted villages and in most of the cases they are first generation learners. Specially these volunteers are entrusted with the responsibility to sustain the development of these adopted villages after their pass-out
Demographic Pattern of the adopted villages is also very interesting. Bengali, Bihari, S.C and Adivasi mainly the Santal people live there. Our few volunteers also belong to these Adivasi groups. During cultural festivals of NSS they perform their traditional Santali dance. Cleaning and education awareness programme are carried throughout the year. NSS volunteers work sincerely to ensure a clean and plastic free college campus. Campus cleaning, cleaning of adopted villages and literacy campaign are continuous activities of NSS department. From the financial year 2016-2017, NSS volunteers are doing survey at adopted villages on adhar card, pan card and bank account. They are also organizing awareness campaign about the importance of adhar card, pan card, voter card bank account, ATM etc and helping the villagers to get them. Cleaning and education awareness programme are carried throughout the year. NSS volunteers work sincerely to ensure a clean and plastic free college campus. Campus cleaning, cleaning of adopted villages and literacy campaign are continuous activities of NSS department
The National Service Scheme Unit-1 and Unit ii of Durgapur Government College organised the following activities in the financial year 2018-19
9-3-2017 to 10-3-2017: NSS Volunteers attended UGC sponsored two day national seminar at Raniganj Girls College on National Integrity and its Crisis: The Role and Responsibility of NSS.
26-4-2017: NSS volunteers attended the West Bengal State NSS Awards Programme at Golpark Ramkrishna Mission. It was organised by the Government of West Bengal.
28-7-2017: Tree Plantation in adopted villages and awareness rally
1-8-2017 to 15-8-2017: As per direction of NSS Directorate, Ministry of Youth and Culture, Govt. of India vide f. no-P-24-1/RD/NSS/Kol/Sawchhta/2017-18 NSS units observed “SWACHHTA PAKHWARA” (fortnight) programme.
