Durgapur Government College, established in 1969 in the industrial city of Durgapur, with its first academic session from 1970-71, has served for more than five decades as an ideal platform to channelize the creative outbursts of young minds and transform them into a value oriented, progressive and dutiful citizen. We believe to lend expression to the thoughts and views of our students through experiential learning in a serene manner and to leave no stone unturned in offering the multitudes of opportunities to our students, which is important in this fast-paced world. Our pedagogy is holistic, inclusive and comprehensive one to nurture our students as responsible representatives of the society. The accountability of the institution has been assessed and accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council with “A” Grade in 2017 and institution was awarded the Prestigious DBT STAR COLLEGE SCHEME in September 2022.
The modern education is presently in the state of flux and gradually orienting towards the outcome based one. We have a dedicated team of teachers who display boundless energy and intense commitment to impart quality education, promote critical thinking and problem solving skills, provide career counselling, cultivate the moral values, motivate to build confidence and strengthen the belief of team work among our students. Departments regularly organize seminars, webinars, workshops, new experiments beyond course curriculum, hands on training, invited lectures, competitions, research laboratory visits, industrial visits, educational tours and take several initiatives to develop the lifelong graduate attributes of students. We are constantly striving to make our students familiar with the latest technology advances and we have also established the National Digital Library of India (NDLI) Club of our Institution. We keep in touch with our students beyond the boundaries of time, space and distance through Knimbus Digital Library services and Library automation facilities. We provide dedicated career counselling services through Career Counselling and Placement Cell and we have also recently established the Institution Innovation Council and Entrepreneurship Development Cell. Our sincere efforts have produced brilliant graduates placed for higher studies in IITs, IISER, NIT, Banarus Hindu University, Delhi University, University of Calcutta, The University of Burdwan, Kazi Nazrul University and other institutes of national repute.
Our institution has instilled the idea of social welfare among students through the two NSS units, and we have also trained our students for Armed forces through the NCC Units. The institution is studded with playgrounds and the 25 acres of campus area represents rich floral and faunal diversity, allowing diverse aspects of environmental promotion activities and green audit. We provide a conducive teaching and learning atmosphere though various support services such as Anti Ragging Committee and Squad, Women Cell, Internal Complaints Committee, Grievance Redressal Committee, Equal Opportunity Cell and Students’ Health Welfare and Psychological Counselling Cell following the Government guidelines. We provide each and every assistance for the student scholarship schemes in line with the objectives of the Government of West Bengal and Government of India to fulfil the dreams of higher education of all students. The institution will also provide hostel facilities, which are presently at the verge of completion.
We have a sincere Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) as a nodal agency to promote quality culture and coordinate the institutionalization of all quality- related activities.

I am thankful to state that our continually progressive successful educational journey has been an outcome of the all-out cooperation of our students, teachers, alumni, guardians, non-teaching staff, local administration, Department of Higher Education, Government of West Bengal, Kazi Nazrul University, Asansol, University Grants Commission, Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India and all contributors to the glorious past and present of Durgapur Government College.
